Like many similar societies, the Hull Geological Society offers its members a variety of indoor meetings in the winter, with guest lecturers speaking on many aspects of geology. There are also Members' Evenings, where amateurs are able to give short talks, slide shows or exhibitions of their own geological interests.

In the summer there is a series of field meetings, which concentrate on the local area of East Yorkshire, the north Yorkshire coast and North Lincolnshire. We usually have one trip by minibus to study the geology of another area. In recent years the Society has made contact with similar geological Societies in other parts of the country and has hosted field meetings for them, when local 'experts' lead the visiting party to quarries and the coast, as an introduction to the area.

The Society also publishes an occasional journal called Humberside Geologist, which encourages amateurs to write about their interests, and concentrates on the geology of the area and the history of local geological studies. The current issue is free for members; back numbers may be purchased from the Secretary.
