A list of staff at the University of Hull Geology Department until its closure and re-opening and closure.
compiled by Mike Horne.
The Department was formed in 1948 as a sub-department of the Department of Geography of University College Hull, which taugth University of London degrees. The University got its charter in 1954 and could then award its own drgerees. In 1963 geology was upgraded to the status of being a proper Departmenr in its own right and the first professor was appointed. As part of a national rationalisation of geology in universities the Department closed in 1988. Some lecturers were retained on a part-time basis to teach out the undergraduate degrees until 1990.
The Department re-opened in 2014 and the University offered a geology degree until 2021 when the same degree was renamed Earth Sciences.
