 Plagiarism

On occasions we have found that individuals and organisations have copied the work of the Society's members from out websites and republished it on their sites without permission.

For example in March 2021 we noticed that this map of the geology of East Yorkshire first used for the East Yorkshire RIGS Group in 2001 appeared on several web pages asscoiated with schools in the UK.

The Society contacted the authors of these web pages to ask why they were using the image without permission and without acknowledging the original source.

• Will Williams, the Headmaster of Kew House School in London had used the image eight times in two slide shows. He replied that ‘There is an acknowledgement on one of the first slides to the "University of Hull" ‘

• Mark Underwood at Selston High School, Nottingham agreed to “investigate further tomorrow” but has not been in touch since.

 The following organisations did not replied to explain their plagiarism :-

• The Crofton Academy in Wakefield

• Ysgol Maesteg (Maesteg School) in Bridgend, Wales

Other websites which are are using the image without permission but hiding their contact details are

• Blackpool Sixth AS Geography edited by Lewis

• Vienna’s A-Level Geography Channel

• Oasis Acadamy

• Quizlet pages by Liam_Collier27

• Slideserve pages by Mallory Gonzalez in Norway
