SAFETY
All sites are best visited on a falling tide. For some the tide is critical either to view the site or to avoid getting stranded. There are some sites where lone working is not recommended because of the nature of the terrain or the short window in the tide. If you do go to these sites alone please tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. Mobile telephones do not always work on the coast - there is often no signal at the bottom of a steep cliff!
For all sites wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions and time of the year. The choice of footwear can be important - wellies for areas where there might be mudslides, grippy trainers for slippery sites and strong walking boots for ankle support in rocky areas.
You are recommended to wear a hard hat when examining cliffs.
If you intend to use a hammer then gloves and safety spectacles or goggles are essential.
Unfortunately the coastal sites are not suitable for people with mobility problems. The urban sites should be OK but there may be curbstones that would be difficult for mobility scooters with small wheels.
Disclaimer – details

If you get stuck in a mudflow you can leave your welly behind and still get home safely!
