Note all sites are best visited on a falling tide. For some the tide is critical either to view the site or to avoid getting stranded. You are recommended to wear a hard hat when examining cliffs.

Scalby Mills

Conservation status -

Parking – on road at top of hill or chargeable car park at Sea Life Centre

Facilities –  pub nearby, cafe in Sea Life Centre

Access – a bit of clambering then beach; easy to get cut off if you go round the headland

Beach - a gravel beach and wave cut platform

Hazards – some rocks to clamber over and slippery wave cut platform

Escape routes – up steep grassed gully in bay to the north

Safety and PPE – hard hat and sensible clothes. Sensible footwear.

Geological highlights – sedimentary structures, dinosaur trackway and fossil plants

Other interests there or nearby – coastal footpath, Scarborough Sea Life Centre and local pub.
