Dane’s Dyke “North” Quaternary

Peg -6 :- distance to Dane’s Dyke “south” section = 22.8m

            Distance to centre of concrete drain pipe in valley = 24m    

            Distance to nearest edge of brick drain inspection box = 0.7m

 

Below are measurements from above and below a sagging horizontal line. Generally the level of the varves was thought to be horizontal and the beach mostly horizontal. At the top of each section there was slumped till and soil often covered with grass and this was not measured. The pegs are 1m apart and numbered going “north”. Sections are listed top down for each peg.

            B/C - boulder clay      

            S - layered sand         

            Br C - brown clay      

            OBV - orange-brown finely layered clays     

            CG - chalk gravels - no erratics except a few flints

            CR - disturbed/shattered chalk          

            CH - in situ Chalk with marl bands
