Hull Geological Society
Some members of the Society have donated their geological collections to museums or universities.- here is a list of the ones we know about and links to further details where available. Please contact the curators to arrange access to the collections.
Lynden Emery - mostly Speeton Clay; collection donated to Hull Museum - catalogue available here (1.2 MB file); MSc thesis in Hull University Library.
Kenneth Fenton - specialising in Yorkshire Jurassic Plants; collection split between Hull College and Hull Museum.
Ron Harrison - collection of local bricks and tiles now in Hornsea Museum (with catalogue and booklet written by Stuart Jones 2017)
Mike Horne - donations to Bristol Museum, Hull Museum, Hull University, the Treasure House in Beverley and Yorkshire Museum.
HGS Centenary Chalk Collection
HGS East Riding Boulder Committee - some material donated to the Treasure House
John Neale - main donation to Natural History Museum in London. Some duplicate material donated to the Treasure House. Some microfossils in the University of Hull Collection. PhD thesis in Hull University Library,
Lewis Penny - Quaternary fossils and erratics; collection at Hull University - catalogued by HGS members
Thomas Sheppard - archive in Hull Local History Library.
Sue Wardell - provenanced East Yorkshire material donated to the Treasure House.
Felix Whitham - Mostly Yorkshire Chalk and local Jurassic; main donation to British Geological Survey in Keyworth (some on loan to and displayed in Hull Museum and Sewerby Hall). Some specimens donated to Hull Museum. Some retained by family. No notebooks (Felix did not use them).
Ted and Willy Wright - mostly Yorkshire Cretaceous; main donation to Natural History Museum in London; some material donated to Hull Museum. Some NHM material on display in Hull and East Riding Museum.
Yorkshire Type Erratics Collection at Hull University - project started in 2020 by Mike Horne
