ROMAN QUERNS
During excavations on Roman sites at Brough, Elmswell, etc., fragments of querns or hand corn mills have been obtained. These have been sent to the Hull Museum and have been examined by the authorities at the Geological Survey. It seems that the material used for these particular querns includes Phonolite from Niedermendig in the Eifel ; Spilsby sandstone from North Lincolnshire; and Carboniferous sandstone from the West Riding.--T.S.
