Hull Geological Society
Since our last AGM we have held one Bisat Research
Group field meeting, a weekend field trip to Anglesey, eleven talks and seminars
on Zoom, five field meetings or guided walks, six virtual Club Nights on
Facebook, two Club Nights at the University, one quiz night, two Roadshows and
two displays at meetings of other Societies. We have published 2 articles in
Humberside Geologist Online and I
added 36 new web-pages to our website in 2022.
It looks as if a
“bended” programme of actual and virtual events is the way forward for the
Society (as with many other clubs). The actual meetings are great for local
people but the virtual meetings can involve more distant members.
We have asked members
to pay their subscriptions this year after two years of free membership. Five
new individual and family members have joined during the year. 16 members have
not renewed their membership and I have taken their details off the mailing
lists this month.
We have tried to
re-establish our actual indoor meetings at the University and I thank Prof Dave
Bond for helping with this. I have retired from full time work at the University
and now have an honorary role there, but accessing the Department has become
difficult leading to an earlier start time for our meetings – I do apologise for
this. My health problems over the last year, meaning that I have had to
“socially distance”, have not helped either.
I thank the speakers at our virtual meetings and the leaders of our field trips
for their contributions. I thank the Treasurer, Membership Secretary and all the
Committee ad Editors for their help. I am looking forward to the next year of
Society activities and if you would like to help please do not be shy in coming
forward!
