Hull Geological Society
Over the year we have
been quite busy –
Our summer and winter programmes included -
seven
indoor lecture meetings, eight Club Nights, one quiz night, two barbeques, one
anniversary meal, three Roadshows and two “traditional” field trips. Our
research groups have also been active: there were three Flamborough Quaternary
Research Group Meetings and at least six Bisat Research Group meetings. We also
contributed three public events to Yorkshire Geology Month 2018
We also did a few new
things. We held our first Roadshow in Flamborough Village Hall and it went very
well. The sale of cakes and teas made a profit and for the first time we sold
specimens donated by members in a lucky dip to raise fund for the Society.
We had a stall for 2
days at the Yorkshire Fossil Festival which was at the University of Hull,
following on from the British Science Festival. There were large numbers of
visitors; though unfortunately some specimens were stolen from members’
displays.
During the year nine
new members were elected. Sadly two long-standing members passed away: Ron
Harrison and Ian Heppenstall, our meetings will not be the same without them.
On behalf of the
Society I thank the Geology Department at Hull University for hosting our indoor
meetings, all our guest speakers, the Committee and meeting organisers. Of
course I thank the members for supporting our events and for their generous
donations.
