The rule of 3s

Every thing we do (well almost everything) has three parts - a beginning, a middle and an end. This is sometimes called the "sandwich model".

So in education and studying:-

each course has a start, a middle and an end (usually an assessment!)

each research project has a beginning (the planning), a middle (the doing) and an end (the writing up)

each lecture or presentation has a beginning (introduction) , a middle and an end (conclusion)

each report or essay has a beginning (introduction) , a middle (the main bit) and an end (conclusion)

each paragraph in the report a beginning (introduction) , a middle and an end (conclusion or link to the next paragraph)

with some of these we may add extra bits to them or we may split the middle up into smaller bits - but essentially they all have three parts, from the simplest paragraph to the longest report.
